WHAT TO EXPECT
-
Allow 1 hour for your first appointment.
Please bring along any doctors letters, referrals and test results (including most recent blood work).
This is a getting to know you session, you will be asked a lot of questions which will allow your dietitian to come up with a plan to suit your needs and have the best chance at actually working.
You will leave the session with some clear goals for your nutrition journey, a plan, an outline for subsequent sessions and potentially some homework.
Your dietitian may also send a letter to your GP and any other relevant health professionals on your team to ensure consistency and cohesive management.
-
After your initial consult you may have a some questions or concerns - that's completely normal, bring them to your next session and get the answers you need.
Follow up appointments are most effective when they occur ~2 weeks after your first appointment, this gives you a chance to try things on but doesn't let too much time pass causing you to lose motivation.
People are often think that if they "haven't done anything" they shouldn't come back to see their dietitian or they might be embarrassed by their lack of progress.
This is absolutely not the case! If you haven't made changes there is always a reason and it's your dietitian's job to find out what that reason is and help you come up with an alternative.
